Weekly Community Havdalah Gathering — Food, Friendship, and Shared Remembrance

Every Saturday evening, our community comes together to share food, conversation, and connection. These gatherings are simple at heart: bring a dish if you can, bring a drink if you’d like, and most importantly, bring yourself. Meeting our neighbors and building relationships within our community is the foundation of what we’re creating, a space where people feel welcomed, supported, and seen.

Each week, we also take time for reflection and remembrance. At our upcoming gathering, we will honor the people of Palestine and hold space for the suffering, loss, and displacement they continue to endure. We will also remember our own loved ones who have passed, offering comfort, prayer, and solidarity to anyone who needs it.

Beginning this week and continuing every Saturday, we will dedicate a portion of our Havdalah gathering to remembering a different people, community, or cause. Some weeks we may focus on Indigenous nations, others on victims of war or oppression, others on local struggles, or on groups facing hardship, injustice, or grief. This rhythm of weekly remembrance helps us stay grounded in compassion and connected to the wider world while strengthening our bonds with one another.

What Is Havdalah?

Havdalah is a Jewish ritual marking the end of Shabbat — a moment that symbolizes transition, renewal, and the movement from sacred rest back into the work of the week. Traditionally, Havdalah uses wine, spices, and a braided candle to represent sweetness, light, and the hope we carry forward.

In our community, Havdalah is both a spiritual practice and a cultural bridge. We honor its Jewish roots while opening the ritual to people of all backgrounds. You do not need to be Jewish, religious, or affiliated with any tradition to participate. Havdalah, in our space, is about closing the week with intention, supporting one another, and stepping into the coming days with clarity and strength.

A Gathering for Everyone

All faiths, identities, and ages are welcome. Whether you come for the food, the prayer, the conversation, or simply the company, you belong here. If you can bring a dish, wonderful — and if not, just bring your appetite. We want this to be a place where no one feels pressure, only warmth.

For those who enjoy games, we’ll also have Magic: The Gathering available for anyone who wants to play or learn. It’s a fun way to unwind and connect across generations and interests.

Building Community, One Saturday at a Time

These weekly gatherings are more than social events — they are the beginnings of a community rooted in care, remembrance, and mutual support. By sharing food, honoring different peoples and causes each week, and participating in a ritual of transition and renewal, we strengthen the spiritual backbone of our group and create a space where everyone can find belonging.

You are invited. You are welcome. And together, we are building something meaningful.
